Retinal Ganglion Cell Topography and Spatial Resolving Power of Eye in the Native Chicken of Bangladesh

The distribution of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) was observed in the wholemount native chicken (Gallus gallus domestricus) Bangladesh by using light microscopy. We considered five different anatomic regions (central, nasal, temporal, dorsal, and ventral) Nissl stained wholemount, RGCs were counted, plotted, measured accordingly. average area retina 431.75 mm2 while total number 2124431 on average. Only central peak density (10400 cells/mm2) area, signifying acute visual whilst maximum spatial resolving power 11 cycles/degree. overall concentration gradually declined towards periphery but size generally decreased centrally. cell not uniform (12 to 180 µm2), specifically retina, just above optic disc packed with tiny-sized cells. number, topographic distribution, signified their domesticated or terrestrial characters, uneven acuteness, possibly only for fine vision as function RGCs.
